The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date for submitting assignments for the December 2025 Term End Examinations (TEE). Students enrolled in Open and Distance Learning (ODL), Online, GOAL, and EVBB programs can now submit their assignments till 20 November 2025.
As per a notice issued by the Student Evaluation Division (SED) on 7 October 2025, the extension of the date applies to both hard copy and online submissions for IGNOU Online courses, Distance courses, etc. The university mentioned that the decision was taken with the approval of the competent authority.
Assignments play an important role in the evaluation process at IGNOU, and students must submit them before the deadline to be eligible for the term-end exams. Students are advised to submit their assignments on time through their respective study centres or online portals, depending on their mode of study.
Assignment Submission Process at IGNOU
The IGNOU provides both online and offline modes for assignment submission, depending on the course and study centre. Students are required to first download the assignment questions for their respective subjects from the official website under the “Student Zone” section. After completing the assignments in their own handwriting, students can either submit a hard copy at their study centre or upload a soft copy through the Google Form or online portal provided by their regional centre.
Each assignment file should include the student’s name, enrollment number, program code, course code, study centre name and contact details on the first page. For online submission, students must ensure that the scanned pages are clear and in PDF format before uploading. It is also advised to keep a copy or receipt as proof of submission.
IGNOU Assignment Weightage 2025
For the academic session 2025-26, the weightage of the assignments remains the same as per the university’s guidelines. Each assignment carries 30% weightage of the total marks, while the Term End Examination (TEE) carries the remaining 70% weightage.
This means that to complete a course a student must submit all assignments and score a minimum of 40% marks in both the assignment and the term-end exam separately. The marks obtained in the assignment are added to the final result, which helps improve the overall grade. Students who fail to submit assignments before the deadline will not be allowed to appear for the TEE. Therefore, timely submission and good performance in assignments are essential for achieving better academic results in IGNOU.
