IIT Mandi has received a donation of over USD 86,000 (around Rs. 75 lakh) from US-based philanthropists Mr. Satish Agrawal and Ms. Kamlesh Agrawal. The donation will create the Satish and Kamlesh Agrawal Charitable Fund in Houston, Texas. This fund will help the institute in many ways, including scholarships for students, travel grants, research work, improving infrastructure, and smart classrooms.
The fund will work as a long-term endowment. This means the main amount will stay safe, and only up to 90% of the interest earned each year will be used for projects. A Committee for Execution (CE) made up of IIT Mandi faculty members will manage the fund. The committee will decide how the money is spent, which projects get support, and how the interest is reinvested to keep the fund going for years.
Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, director of IIT Mandi, thanked the donors for their kindness. He said that donations like this help improve higher education, research, and innovation in India.
The donation was made possible with the help of the IIT Roorkee Foundation (IITRF), USA, which ensures that 100% of the donations reach Indian institutions. IIT Mandi also thanked the IITRF Board of Directors, who cover all operational costs themselves, so every donation directly benefits the institute.
Prof. Varun Dutt, Dean of Resource Generation & Alumni Relations at IIT Mandi, said, We are very thankful to Mr. Satish and Ms. Kamlesh Agrawal for their support. This fund is an example of how donations can be used wisely to support education, research, and innovation at IIT Mandi for a long time.
Donor Mr. Satish Agrawal said we want to support education, research, and community development through IIT Mandi. Knowledge and innovation can make a lasting difference in society.
IIT Mandi said the donation will help students, improve learning resources and promote innovation. It will support scholarships, research projects, and infrastructure development, creating more opportunities for students and faculty.
With this help IIT Mandi plans to grow as a strong center for learning and research and continue guiding students to achieve academic and innovative success.
