48,563 MBBS and 29,080 PG (MS/MD) seats have been added by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare after 6 years for medical students. It is the most significant step that is taken by the MoHFW and SMT. Anupriya Patel, and it is going to be implemented in the financial year 2025-26 itself. NMC (National Medical Commission) has played a vital role in this progress that will fix the gap of the workforce in the healthcare industry in India in the future.
Medical Candidates saw a steady rise of 11,119 seats in MBBS and 7,619 seats in PG courses from 2021 to 2025. According to the official data, 8,790 seats were added in the 2021-22 year in MBBS. After analysing the global medical scenarios, MoHFW has added the highest no. of seats of 11,119 for MBBS students in the 2025-26 academic year. This 6 years of cumulative growth led to 48,563 seats in total.
MD or MS candidates were also waiting for such kind of rise in the seat allotment. In the last 5 years, they witnessed a gentle growth in the number of seats and 4,705 seats were added in 2021-22 AY. The highest number of rise taken in 2025-26 annual year with the growth of 7,619 in the number of seats which makes a huge sum of 29,080 over the six years.
10,023 overall medical seats have been increased by the Government of India in the 2025-26 academic year to help young aspirants climb the ladder faster, so that India can see a holistic development in society. This year, more than 2.42 lakh candidates took the NEET exam, so this act will inspire more students to spread their wings more freely. NMC will maintain the quality of education through GMER 2023, MSR, MSMER 2023 and CBME curriculum 2024.
