The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), through its Multilateral Economic Relations (MER) division, has invited applications for contractual roles to support India’s upcoming BRICS Chairship. The recruitment is being done for two types of positions Policy Specialists and Consultants to assist with policy and coordination work related to BRICS activities.

The appointments will be made for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance, requirement, and mutual consent. Interested candidates must submit their applications by 16 January 2026 before 5:30 pm. Applicants shortlisted for the next stage will be informed about the interview or written test through email.

As per the official MEA notification, the ministry plans to hire two Policy Specialists and ten Consultants. All positions will be based in New Delhi, with postings at MEA offices such as South Block and Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan. Selected candidates will work with dedicated BRICS Working Groups handling areas like trade, finance, energy, agriculture and health.

Policy Specialists will be involved in preparing concept notes, background papers, and analytical reports. They will also help with negotiations, draft official outcome documents and coordinate with BRICS countries and international organisations. Consultants, on the other hand, will assist in creating presentations, position papers and media-related material. Their role will also include tracking country-level views on key issues and coordinating with line ministries and think tanks.

Eligibility for MEA Recruitment 2025 

Candidates applying for contractual positions under the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) must meet certain educational and professional requirements. The eligibility may differ slightly based on the role, but the basic criteria are outlined below.

  • Educational Qualification: Applicants should hold a graduate or postgraduate degree from a recognised university. Degrees in areas such as International Relations, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, Commerce, Finance, or related fields are preferred.
  • Relevant Experience:

    • For Policy Specialist roles, candidates are expected to have prior experience in policy research, international affairs, multilateral engagement or related work.

    • For Consultant roles, candidates with experience in research support, coordination work, content preparation or government-related assignments will be given preference.

  • Skills Required:

    • Strong writing and communication skills

    • Ability to prepare reports, concept notes, presentations, and policy documents

    • Good understanding of international relations and multilateral platforms like BRICS

  • Age Limit: Candidates should generally be below 45 years of age, though the final age criteria will be as per MEA norms mentioned in the official notification.

  • Other Requirements: Applicants must be Indian citizens and should be willing to work from New Delhi at MEA offices.

MEA Recruitment 2025: Salary 

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also outlined the pay structure for the contractual positions announced under its Multilateral Economic Relations (MER) division for India’s upcoming BRICS Chairship. As per the official notification, selected Policy Specialists and Consultants will be offered a fixed monthly remuneration, which will be paid on a consolidated basis.

The exact monthly pay will vary depending on the role, level of experience, and qualifications of the candidate, and will be decided according to MEA’s existing contractual engagement norms. The ministry has clarified that these positions are purely contractual in nature, and therefore, no additional allowances such as HRA, DA, medical benefits or pension benefits will be provided beyond the agreed remuneration.
