The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has released the provisional answer keys and response sheets for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. Candidates who appeared for the examination can now check and download the GATE 2026 answer key from the official website.
To access the answer key, candidates need to log in using their application number, registered email address, and password. Along with the answer keys, IIT Guwahati has also made available the response sheets, which show the answers marked by candidates during the examination. This allows students to compare their responses with the official answers and get an idea of their expected score before the results are declared.
GATE 2026 Exam Details
IIT Guwahati conducted the GATE 2026 computer-based test (CBT) on 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th February. The examination was held for 30 subjects and was conducted in multiple sessions across various test centres in India.
The question paper included different types of questions such as:
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)
- Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions
This pattern tested candidates on both conceptual understanding and numerical problem-solving skills.
Answer Key Challenge Facility Open
Along with the release of the provisional answer keys, IIT Guwahati has also activated the answer key challenge link on the official portal. Candidates who are not satisfied with any answer provided in the provisional key can raise objections within the given time period.
To challenge an answer, candidates must submit their objection online through the official website before the deadline. Each challenge will be reviewed carefully by subject experts. After examining all valid objections, IIT Guwahati will release the final answer key. The GATE 2026 result will be prepared only on the basis of this final answer key.
Marking Scheme and Score Calculation
Using the provisional answer key and response sheet, candidates can calculate their probable scores. For most GATE papers such as AE, AG, BM, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, ME, and other papers that include Engineering Mathematics, the exam carries a total of 100 marks.
The marks are divided as follows:
- General Aptitude: 15 marks
- Subject Paper: 85 marks
Different marking schemes apply for MCQs, MSQs, and NAT questions, and candidates should follow the official guidelines while calculating their scores.
GATE 2026 Result Date and Use
IIT Guwahati is scheduled to declare the GATE 2026 result on 19th March 2026. The results will play an important role in admissions to postgraduate programmes such as MTech and PhD in IITs, NITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions.
Apart from admissions, GATE scores are also used by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in India for recruitment purposes. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official website for updates related to the final answer key and result announcement.
