The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has announced the launch of a new Postgraduate (PG) Diploma in Manufacturing Analytics, aimed at helping professionals develop advanced skills in data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital transformation in the manufacturing sector. The program is specially designed for working professionals and graduates who want to enhance their knowledge and build expertise in modern manufacturing technologies.
The new diploma programs will be conducted in a web-enabled format, making it convenient for learners from across the country to participate while continuing their jobs or studies. According to the institute, the programs will provide industry-relevant knowledge and practical learning to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in manufacturing analytics.
Programs Start Date and Application Details
The first batch of the PG Diploma in Manufacturing Analytics will begin on 7th September 2026. The registration process for the programs has already started. Interested candidates can apply online through the official website of IIT Madras’ Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE).
The last date to submit applications is 31st May 2026. Applicants can complete their registration and find more information about the programs through the official portal @code.iitm.ac.in/pgdma.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have a 3-year or 4-year undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline to apply for the program.
- Eligible educational backgrounds include BSc in Computer Science, Computer Applications, and other related fields.
- Admission eligibility will be considered according to IIT Madras guidelines.
- The program is mainly designed for working professionals from large-scale and medium-scale manufacturing companies.
- Eligible graduates who want to build a career in manufacturing analytics can also apply for this diploma program.
Focus on Industry-Relevant Skills
The PG Diploma in Manufacturing Analytics is offered by the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Madras. The course has been developed to meet the increasing industry demand for professionals who can apply data analytics and artificial intelligence to manufacturing operations.
With industries rapidly adopting digital technologies, the manufacturing sector is also undergoing significant changes. Companies now require professionals who can use data to improve production efficiency, decision-making, and overall operational performance. Course Structure and Curriculum
The one-year program is structured into three academic terms, running from September to August. The diploma carries a total of 90 academic credits, highlighting the academic depth and practical focus of the course.

- Digital Transformation in Manufacturing

In addition to theoretical subjects, the programs also includes two practical courses:
- Manufacturing Analytics Implementation I
- Manufacturing Analytics Implementation II
These hands-on courses will allow learners to work on real-world manufacturing problems and develop practical skills required in the industry.
Final Assessment and Learning Outcomes
The programs will conclude with a holistic assessment of Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing Analytics. Through this evaluation, students will learn how to analyse the adoption of AI technologies from technological, operational, and organisational perspectives.
The course is designed to help professionals understand how analytics and AI can be used to increase productivity, improve decision-making, and support digital transformation in manufacturing organisations.
IIT Madras Director on the New programs
Highlighting the importance of such initiatives, Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, stated that India’s manufacturing sector is currently undergoing rapid digital transformation.
He said that there is a growing need for programs that combine strong academic knowledge with practical industry relevance. According to him, the new postgraduate diploma reflects IIT Madras’ commitment to preparing professionals who can lead technology driven changes in the manufacturing industry.
Professor Kamakoti further added that such programs will help create future-ready professionals capable of managing complex manufacturing systems using advanced technologies like data analytics and artificial intelligence.
