The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has released the exam schedule for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026. According to the announcement, the entrance examination will be conducted on 17 May 2026 (Sunday). The test will be held in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode at designated examination centres across the country.
JEE Advanced is considered one of the toughest engineering entrance examinations in India. Only candidates who perform well in JEE Main and fall within the prescribed qualifying ranks are eligible to appear for this stage of the examination.
Performance in JEE Advanced plays a crucial role in securing admission to prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Through this examination, candidates can gain entry into several undergraduate programs, including Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Science (BS), integrated science programs and dual-degree courses such as BTech–MTech.
Since the examination is conducted in CBT mode, candidates will respond to questions using computer systems at their allotted exam centres, ensuring a uniform and structured testing environment nationwide.
The admit card for JEE Advanced 2026 will be made available for download on the official website from 11 to 17 May 2026. Registered candidates will be required to log in to the portal and download the hall ticket before the examination date. The entrance test is scheduled to be conducted on 17 May 2026, and will take place in two separate sessions on the same day. Paper 1 will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by Paper 2 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026, candidates must be ranked among the top 250000 in JEE Main 2026 (Paper 1: BE/BTech), irrespective of category. Each candidate is allowed a maximum of two attempts, and these must be taken in two consecutive years. In addition, applicants should have appeared for the Class 12 examination (or an equivalent qualification) for the first time in either 2025 or 2026, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates who have previously secured admission to any Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) are not permitted to appear for the examination again.
The examination will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode at designated centres across the country. The question paper will be provided in both English and Hindi, allowing candidates from different regions to attempt the test comfortably.
JEE Advanced 2026 Syllabus Overview
