The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will close the registration window for its prestigious Young Scientist Programme, YUVIKA 2026, on 31st March 2026. Interested students currently studying in Class 9 have only a short time left to apply for this fully funded initiative, which aims to nurture young talent in space science and technology.
YUVIKA, short for Yuva Vigyani Karyakram, is a two-week residential programme designed to introduce school students to the fundamentals of space science, satellite technology, and related applications. The program is part of ISRO’s broader effort to “catch them young” and inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The online registration process began on 27th February 2026 and will officially end on 31st March 2026. Applications must be submitted through ISRO’s dedicated portal, and late submissions will not be accepted.
Eligibility and Selection Process
The programme is open to students who are studying in Class 9 as of 1st January 2026 in any recognised school across India. Selection is merit-based and follows a structured weightage system.
A significant 50% weightage is given to marks obtained in Class 8, while additional points are awarded for performance in quizzes, participation in science fairs, Olympiads, and extracurricular activities such as NCC, NSS, or sports. Students from rural schools are given special consideration to promote inclusivity.
Programme Details and Benefits
YUVIKA 2026 will be conducted from 11th May 2026 to 22nd May 2026 at multiple ISRO centres across the country. During the programme, selected students will receive hands-on training, attend lectures by ISRO scientists, and participate in practical sessions such as model rocketry and satellite simulations.
One of the key highlights of the initiative is that it is fully sponsored by ISRO. Selected participants will be provided free accommodation, meals, study materials, and even travel support, including reimbursement of train or bus fare.
Important Dates
Following the closure of applications, ISRO will release the first selection list on 13th April 2026, followed by a second confirmation list on 20th April 2026 to fill any remaining vacancies.
Objective of the Initiative
Launched to create early awareness about space science, YUVIKA provides students with an opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical exposure. By interacting with scientists and visiting ISRO facilities, participants gain valuable insights into India’s space missions and technological advancements.
With the deadline fast approaching, eligible students are encouraged to complete their applications promptly to avoid missing out on this unique opportunity to explore the world of space science under the guidance of one of India’s premier scientific organisations.
