In February 2026, the Indian Ministry of Education will host a high-level session on the future of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools and colleges. The event held during the Indian AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam makes a significant step in the government’s plan to modernise learning for millions of students.
The session is titled Ministry of Education Pushing the frontier of AI in India. It will feature top leaders, including union education minister dharmender pradhan and Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary.
A Vision for the Future
This initiative is part of a bigger goal, Viksit Bharat 2047. The government wants to use AI to improve how students learn and how teachers teach, following the guideline of the national education policy (NEP) 2020.
For the past ten years, the ministry has been building the foundation for this digital shift. They have created a national digital platform and started new training programs for teachers. A major milestone in this journey is the centre of excellence in AI for education recently established at IIT Madras.
From Planning to Action
The session at the summit will focus on moving from ideas to real world use. Instead of just running small projects, the government wants to bring AI into every classroom across the country. Key topics will include:
- Public digital infrastructure: Using government technology to reach rural and urban areas.
- Teachers Training: Helping educators learn how to use AI tools effectively.
- Curriculum changes: Updating what students learn to include AI skills.
- Startup Collaboration: Working with young tech companies to find creative solutions.
Building a Safe AI Roadmap
A major goal of the session is to ensure that AI is used responsibly. The Ministry has already held several meetings, including the Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave 2026, to discuss how to use AI safely without compromising student privacy or ethics.
The Ministry believes that by combining government support with industry expertise, India can create a national roadmap for AI. This will ensure that technology doesn’t just exist in labs but actually helps improve grades, skills, and job opportunities for students across India.
