The National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially released the counselling schedule and final seat matrix for NNET PG 2025 admissions. The counselling process will cover admission to postgraduate medical courses under both all india quota (AIQ) and state seats for the 2025-26 academic year.
According to a public notice issued by postgraduate medical education board (PGMEB) of NMC, the NEET PG 2025 counselling will be followed for both AIQ and state quota seats to ensure a smooth and transparent admission process.
NMC has clearly instructed all state counselling timelines to strictly follow the counselling timeline announced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). This step has been taken to maintain uniformity in the country and to avoid any overlap between AIQ and state-level counselling rounds. The commission has emphasized that any deviation from the notified schedule may create confusion and delay admission.
As per the counselling schedule, round 1 of NEET PG 2025 counselling was conducted between October and November 2025. This was followed by round 2 in December 2025. The third round of counselling is scheduled to continue until January 2026. After the completion of round 3, the stray vacancy round will be held, which is expected to be concluded by the end of January 2026.
NMC has announced that the final date for joining the seats allotted in any counselling round is 31st January 2026. Candidates who fail to join their allotted seats by this deadline may lose their admission opportunity. This academic session for postgraduate medical courses officially began on 22nd December 2025.
To ensure that the counselling process is completed on time, the NMC has clarified that Saturdays, Sundays, and Gazetted holidays will also be considered as working days. This decision has been taken to prevent any delay in admission and to maintain the academic calendar.
Along with the counselling schedule, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC has released the final seat matrix for postgraduate broad speciality courses for the 2025-26 academic year. As per the released data, a total of 57,503 broad speciality PG seats are available across medical colleges in India. This includes 7,619 newly added seats, reflecting an increase in postgraduate medical education capacity for the upcoming academic year.
Medical colleges and universities have been directed to carefully verify the seat details mentioned against their name in the official seats matrix. In case of any issue, institutions must inform MARB within 15 days of the issuance of the notice. NMC had warned that failure to report issues within a given time may lead to delays in updating students’ admission details on the official NMC admission portal.
Candidates appearing for NEET PG 2025 are advised to regularly check the official website of MCC and NMC for the latest updates related to counselling rounds, seat allotment results, joining deadlines, and further instructions. Staying updated will help candidates avoid missing important dates during the admission process.
