NHRC starts 14-day online internship programme

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has started an online internship programme for 80 university students. 1,147 candidates from 17 states and union territories have been shortlisted for this programme from different backgrounds and cultures. The internship is scheduled for 2 weeks, and it will conclude on 20th March 2026. The Commission aims to produce experienced ambassadors of human rights for the development of society on various levels.

Bharat Lal, Secretary General of NHRC, emphasised on make the best use of this online short-term internship programme (OSTI). By saying that, “Use the two weeks to sensitise themselves so that they could recognise injustice wherever it occurs and identify discrimination, whether systematic or otherwise”. We can build a beautiful and safe place for each other by our collective efforts, support and awareness. 

He also defined the ‘developed India’ meaning to the students and said, “It should be reflected in everyday experiences people have at home, in schools, colleges, hostels, workplaces and public spaces.” Additionally, Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak, India Joint Secretary, NHRC, gave a brief detail on the online internship programme. Like; The internship will include lectures, team and individual competitions.

Along with this, the participants also learn about research work through online projects, book reviews and virtual tours of institutions such as Tihar Shelter Home and Police Station to offer insights into the functioning of these social organisations. In this hostile era, this programme can play a significant role in the protection of human rights. For that, our youth must be aware, courageous and experienced.
