The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released the exam schedule for the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) recruitment to fill 9,970 posts across different railway zones. As per the official notification, the computer-based test (CBT) will be held from 16 to 18 February 2026.
RRB has also informed candidates about the release of the exam city intimation slip and admit card. The exam city slip, along with the travel authority for SC/ST candidates, will be issued 10 days before the exam date on the respective RRB regional websites. The admit card will be available for download four days before the exam date, as mentioned in the exam city and date intimation link. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official RRB websites for updates and further instructions related to the examination.
RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam Pattern
The Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) recruitment exam will be conducted in multiple stages. The first stage is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of objective-type multiple-choice questions. The exam will cover subjects such as Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science and General Awareness. The CBT will be held for a fixed duration, during which candidates must answer all questions on a computer. Performance in the CBT will determine eligibility for the next stage of the selection process.
RRB ALP CBT 1 Selection Stage
The selection process for the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) post will be carried out in several stages. The first stage is CBT Stage 1, which is a screening test to shortlist candidates for the next round. Candidates who qualify for Stage 1 will appear for CBT Stage 2, which is more detailed and focuses on technical and trade-related subjects relevant to the post.
Those who clear CBT Stage 2 will be required to appear for the Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), wherever applicable, to assess skills important for train operations. Candidates who qualify all required stages will then be called for Document Verification, where original certificates and eligibility documents will be checked before final selection.
Negative Marking Rule
The Railway Recruitment Board has informed candidates that the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) computer-based examination will include a negative marking system. For every incorrect answer, one-third of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted. Candidates are advised to attempt questions carefully to avoid unnecessary loss of marks.
Post-wise Eligibility Reminder
Candidates applying for the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) post must meet the prescribed eligibility conditions. Applicants should have passed Class 10 along with ITI in the relevant trade from a recognized institute, or hold a diploma/degree in engineering as specified by RRB. The age limit for candidates is generally 18 to 30 years, with age relaxation applicable for reserved categories as per government rules. Candidates are advised to check the official notification for detailed eligibility requirements before appearing for the examination.
Important Instruction
Candidates must bring the original photo ID that was mentioned in their application form. Those who fail to produce the required identity document will not be allowed to enter the examination hall.
Applicants who completed Aadhaar verification during the application process are advised to keep their Aadhaar unlocked in the UIDAI system to avoid any issues during identity verification at the exam centre.
RRB has advised candidates to depend only on official RRB websites for authentic information and stay away from unverified or misleading sources. Candidates are also warned against touts or agents who claim to offer job appointments, as all RRB recruitments are conducted strictly on merit through the computer-based test (CBT). The Board has clearly stated that selection is based only on exam performance, and there is no role of offline methods or monetary influence in the recruitment process.
