Supreme Court Limits Relief in Rajasthan SI Exam 2025 to One Candidate | Impact on Candidates

Rajasthan SI Exam 2025

The Supreme Court of India has revised its earlier order regarding the Rajasthan Sub-Inspector Recruitment Examination 2025, now allowing only one candidate to appear instead of the 713 candidates who were earlier granted relief. The examination, conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), is scheduled for 5 and 6 April 2026 across multiple centers.

A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma held a special sitting on a holiday to reconsider its 2 April decision. This came after the RPSC informed the court that some important facts had not been presented earlier. Following this, the court restricted the benefit to only the original petitioner, Suraj Mal Meena who had approached the court seeking relief.

Earlier, the apex court had directed the RPSC to issue provisional admit cards to 713 candidates and had stated that their results would remain withheld until the Rajasthan High Court delivered its verdict on related petitions. However, after fresh submissions the court withdrew the broader relief. It also clarified that other affected candidates who were not part of the case can approach the High Court and seek permission to reappear depending on the outcome of pending matters. The High Court is currently hearing multiple petitions related to the recruitment process.

The recruitment drive aims to fill 1015 posts of sub-inspectors and platoon commanders, with more than 7.7 lakh candidates expected to appear. The examination had earlier been cancelled due to allegations of widespread irregularities and malpractice prompting the commission to conduct a fresh test.

However, the decision to hold a re-exam without granting age relaxation to certain candidates led to legal challenges. A single-judge bench of the Rajasthan High Court had initially allowed affected candidates to appear provisionally but this order was later stayed by a division bench after which the matter reached the Supreme Court. The latest ruling provides clarity ahead of the exam while leaving scope for further legal action depending on the final decision of the High Court.

Impact on Candidates

The Supreme Court’s latest decision has directly affected the 713 candidates who were earlier allowed to appear in the exam, as they are now not permitted to take the test. These candidates will have to approach the Rajasthan High Court again if they want permission to appear.

For the larger group of over 7.7 lakh candidates, the decision brings clarity as the exam will go ahead as scheduled. However, concerns still remain due to ongoing legal issues related to eligibility and age relaxation.
