The University Grants Commission (UGC) found 32 fake universities across India, and Delhi is at the top of the list. UGC is a statutory body under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, under the Government of India. It gives a warning to all that if someone does a degree from here, it will be invalid for employment or higher education in India, as well as abroad.
Along with this, Delhi has the highest number of fake universities, with 12 unofficial institutions in the state. UGC also advised students to revisit and check the recognition of all the universities before applying to any college for UG, PG, or other courses in the 2026 academic cycle. The Commission has stated that those institutes have no legal certification from the central or state government to offer higher educational degrees or vocational-based courses.
