University Grant Commission has released the subject-wise exam schedule for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) December 2025 cycle. The schedule was announced on 17th December 2025, and the exam will begin on 31st December 2025. The exam will continue till the 7th January 2026.
UGC NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine the eligibility of candidates for the award of junior research fellowship appointments as assistant professor, and admission to PhD courses in Indian universities. The exam plays an important role for students who wish to build a career in teaching and research.
According to the official notification, the UGC NET December 2025 exam will be held for more than 80 subjects. The examination will be conducted in online mode (computer-based test). Students can check their subject-wise exam dates by visiting the official website.
The exam will be conducted in two shifts each day. First shift will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, while the second shift will take place from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Applicants are advised to carefully check their exam dates, shift, and subjects to avoid any confusion on the exam day.
NTA will also release the exam city intimation slip for UGC NET December 2025. As per the updates, the city intimation details will be displayed on the official website at least 10 days before the exam. This will help candidates make travel and accommodation arrangements in advance.
UGC NET is conducted twice every year, once in June and then in December. The June 2025 cycle of UGC NET was held from 18th June to 21st June 2025. A total of 10,19,751 applicants registered for the June 2025 exam, out of which 7,52,007 candidates appeared.
Based on their performance and category-wise cut-off marks, 5269 candidates qualified for both Junior Research Fellowship, assistant professorship, and Phd admissions. At the same time, 128179 candidates qualified for PhD admission only.
Applicants who qualified for JRF are eligible to apply for funded research positions and can also apply for assistant professor posts. Those who qualify for an assistant professorship can apply for teaching jobs in colleges and universities across India.
Candidates who qualify under Phd only category can apply for the doctoral courses as per the rules of the respective university. Applicants appearing for UGC NET December 2025 are advised to regularly visit the official website for the latest updates related to the admit card, exam guidelines, and results.
